In recent years, veneer stones have been developed for wall surfacing that (as well as thin brick) can be applied onto metal lath with mortar cement and sand and do not require a footer. Veneer stones are generally about 2 inches thick and are either natural or man made. The veneer stones are sized and shaped which requires minimal alteration. Conversely, full sized stones require much labor to install in a building project.
Natural veneer stone’s advantage over manufactured stone is that it is authentic stone, it is stronger and even if chipped will still show the same color. The advantage of manufactured veneer stone over natural stone is that it is lighter in weight, is generally less expensive and there are more color choices.
